Review: New H&M Beauty Department

Tuesday, September 29, 2015

HM's beauty department just opened last week and I got to try some goodies first hand when they popped up in my mailbox! With the arrival of fall, this line focuses on dark and dramatic eyes and lips, and flawless neutrals with clean fresh finishes. Neutral makeup can be warmed up with sages, cinnamon and chestnut colours. So appropriate for fall!
My first impressions of the collection are that I love the simplistic design of the packaging. The boxes are also very aesthetically pleasing and pretty :)

HM Precision Eye Marker $12.99CAD
Love this liner! I've always preferred liquid liners over pencil and crayon and this pen draws on as precise as its name says. I can draw thick lines with no problem or I can also draw very thin lines if I just want to liven up my eyes a little bit. It goes on smooth and pigmented. Most of my liners are around this price too so I would say it's comparable.
HM Pure Radiance Powder Blusher in "Apricot" $12.99CAD HM True Matte Finishing Powder "Warm Beige" $12.99CAD
The texture of this powder blush is sooo soft and velvety feeling. It goes on your skin feeling super light and has a very natural faint pink shade. I think this will compliment a lot of pale and slightly tanned skin tones. I also like that it's matte which I prefer over sparkly glitter blushes that end up getting glitter or shine on your face in places you didn't mean to put blush (like when your brush accidentally spreads it too much). I have also been using this matte finishing powder over my BB cream for just over a week and am currently LOVING it! It goes on matte and I definitely look way less oily than I would if I didn't wear the powder. I also noticed it visibly keeps my makeup in tact longer which is great for long work days or evening gatherings.
HM Cream Lip Colour #041 "Candy Apple" $12.99CAD
I sport a red lip most of the year so I was obviously excited to get another red lipstick! I love love love the formula of this lipstick. I'm normally scared to try drugstore priced/inexpensive lipsticks because the formulas are cheap or way too drying for my lips but this lipstick applies on super rich and creamy and doesnt try my lips at all!! Again this price is comparable to drugstore brands so I think it definitely is giving Shoppers Drug Mart a run for its money ;)
HM Eye Colour Palette Smoky Nudes $12.99CAD
These colours are so pretty and versatile for smokey eyes and to brighten up your eyes, while the mattes are even more versatile because they can be used to contour your face. I don't really wear eyeshadow ever so the ones I use most from this palette are the whites and sparkly beiges to brighten up my undereye dark circles. This is great for the holidays too! The textures are again very soft and velvety feeling like the blush and powder above. I find this to be a good inexpensive alternative for someone who is looking for a starter palette.
HM Nail Lacquer "December Dawn" $6.99CAD
This colour is a very faint pink sparkly nail polish. Quite pretty on its own but nothing toooo eye catching, but would make a great top coat to sparkle up a dull colour or basic colour.

What do you guys think of the new H&M beauty collection?
